16 December Kuala Lumpur
This afternoon I returned to National Art Gallery
Malaysia to see what I had missed yesterday, as the galleries take two days to
best appreciate! I returned to the 2nd floor for a more leisurely look at the
Works on Paper, then dived into the second half of the big NUSA exhibition. Up
on the 3rd floor I watched a giant-screen video “World of Luópán” (2024) by
Malaysian artist Chong Yan Chuah in which a very strange computer-generated
androgynous figure talked about an AI-enhanced life of the future. Its voice
would change in pitch between that of a woman and a man. This “new media art”
was also part of the NUSA exhibits. Additionally at the 3rd floor, I entered a
large gallery of contemporary art created by people from Malaysia, Indonesia,
and Thailand. Lots of variety and wackiness here!
I took two light rail
lines to near Central Market (Pasar Seni), established in 1888 and the city’s
oldest market. Lots of souvenirs are on sale here and I bought some postcards. A
short hop on a light rail brought me to KL Sentral, then I swung by Restoran MTR
1924 for a pair of godhi dosa, a tasty South Indian savory crepes that were new
to me. They’re made from wheat flour and accompanied with tomato chutney and a
bit of veggies.
